As a mother, daughter, wife and sister I am constantly wearing multiple hats, and the weight of responsibilities can sometimes be overwhelming. With 3 daughters who are so impressionable at the ages of 11, 12 and 15, I also must be mindful of the way I address life’s issues and circumstances that are presented to me. God said in Psalm 34:19 that many are the afflictions of the righteous but He would deliver us from them all.
This lets me know that we are going to encounter challenges in this life that will pierce the core of our being. From the death of a child to infidelity of a husband or wife, the affliction will come but it’s not going to overtake you. I can remember going through a journey in which my spouse of 17 years was unfaithful. I felt as if my life was crashing down in an instance. I was at such a low place and the pain was excruciating to bear, to the point of asking God to take my life.
In that season God first reminded me of his faithfulness according to Isaiah 54:5, For your maker is your husband. He then reminded me of His Word, that he would deliver me from this affliction that felt so traumatic. God’s word trumps any circumstance or affliction that you may encounter and He will never put more on you than you can bear. I can now say that it was good that I was afflicted according to Psalms 119:71 because while bringing me out He filled me with strength, tenacity and a determination to serve and minister to marriages. As it is often said my pain was not for me but to be able to attest to someone else’s pain and to stand as a testimony that God is a redeemer and the affliction is only for a season.
