It shall come to pass that I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will Isaiah 65:24
Often times I wonder before I doze off what the nature of my dreams will be. Will it be peaceful? Will I wake up with a worship song on my mind? Or will it be full of angst and cause me to wake up worried. Well, last night I made a special petition to God, and as I dozed off, I had a feeling that all would be okay in dreamland.
When I opened my eyes in the morning, I marveled. I dreamed that a relative and I were in some sort of star trek command center watching a threat head our way. There was a button in front of me to call call for help, but I waited for my relative—the leader of the mission—to give the command.
In the dream I could also see the command center of the good guys (our helpers) and the bad guys (our enemy). Both sides were dressed like hollywood Avenger-type action heroes, but I instinctively knew who the bad guys were because they had a little pirate edge to them.
I saw the good guys chomping at the bit to rush in and save us, but their leader said no. They needed to wait for our call, meaning I had to push the button first.
At the enemy’s command center, there was a great deal of excitement because victory was so close, they could taste it.
And then it happened. The enemy broke through our space ship. Before we could even react, there was a virtual rewind of that action and it seemed as if we had more time added to the clock. This time, I didn’t wait for permission, I pressed the help button and I kept pressing it.
Our servers went down and while our system went through a series of resets I worried because I knew the good guys couldn’t have gotten my help button message. There was no help that came rushing in, and yet there was a sense that a shield force of protection had wrapped around our “ship” and so all was quiet.
When I opened my eyes and went through all these details I came to this: the good guys in the dream were God’s angels. They are a well-trained, agile, army that is on a standby assignment to assist the children of God when they press the button and call for help.
How do we press that button?
Through prayer. When we pray we authorize God to intervene on our behalf, and He, knowing we will need help, lovingly sends His angels to be that alert, well-prepared, standby army. An army that is ready to act, even before the help button is pressed.
God’s love for his children is so extravagant, that before you pray about an issue the answer is sent, but, you must pray. That completes the spiritual equation and allows that mighty army to move from standby mode and onto your battlefield.
If you’ve been waiting to press the prayer button on an issue, don’t. Press it now.
Tune out the voices of the world, that dull your senses to oncoming threats, and tune into the voice of the Holy Spirit.
Bask in the glorious love of a God who even when we see the threats coming our way and just keep watching, he says, “the angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them” (Psalm 34:7).
